I had such a nice time visiting the children’s hospital this week. I started off in the lobby. There were several patients and parents around one table. So my human set me there, but I almost instantly jumped off and jumped on a sofa next to somebody’s dad. He took some photos of me to send to another family member.
My human briefly brought me back to the table to show off my bell ringing. One of the patients was a little girl who seemed a little shy and wound up going around to the back of the sofa. After that, we went to the exam rooms.
Every so often we encounter someone who was allergic, and usually when they tell us that, my human and I don’t enter the room. This visit, we encountered three allergic patients.
We were about to leave one room, but the nurse said we could come in. I think he wanted to see us more than the patient and his mother. I actually didn’t go near the boy, just his mother, who was very sweet. She mostly spoke Korean, but she managed to let us know she had a litter box to donate if we wanted it. My human explained we didn’t need one but thanked her anyway. And as we were leaving, the nurse thanked us for stopping by.
One of the rooms we knocked on contained the shy little girl we saw in the lobby. My human asked if she wanted a private meeting with me and she enthusiastically said yes! So we did…and it turned out her name was Summer! She and her parents were such nice people, and my human enjoyed chatting with them. I enjoyed being petted by the girl.
We had one cast room to visit, and it contained a squirmy little boy and his mom. He was probably squirmy because of the time he had spent sitting still while his arm cast was drying. But he was happy to see me and pet me. His mom mentioned she worked in mental health, and how good it was for the patients to interact with animals. So of course my human told her that we visit the Behavioral Medicine wing of another hospital.
Our last visit was with a very young girl with her family. She had an arm cast on that looked like it had been there for a long time. My human placed me by her side with the arm without the cast so she could pet me. Her whole family was there, both parents and an older brother.
All the kids were so nice, and very gentle with me, even the squirmy boy. It was an exceptionally nice visit for everyone, including me and my human.
