My therapy cat visit at the big hospital was a little different from normal. On Thursdays we usually visit Behavioral Medicine. They canceled this time, so we didn’t have to rush through our other visits.
In fact, on our way back from the Cancer Center, my human and I took a quick detour past the farmer’s market they have there. We didn’t buy anything, but we did run into a couple of really nice nurses who were happy to see me!
We stopped in Labor and Delivery, where the nurses always look forward to seeing me. That was fun, plus there were also a couple of patients to see. One young woman was a total animal lover, and she was there with her partner. He said he was mainly a dog person and had never been around cats. But I could tell he’s a natural with cats by the way he responded to me. Meanwhile, the bedridden mom-to-be chatted happily about her dog at home and the cats she’s had in the past. While she and my human talked, I relaxed on the hospital bed with her and made myself comfortable.
The other patent we saw had her whole family there. This included a little girl who was about three or four and the dad, who was buried under a light blanket, sleeping. The kid talked nonstop. This was a little unfortunate because my human couldn’t understand a word she said! My human often has a hard time figuring out what kids those age are saying. Although she seemed to like me, the girl never did get around to petting me. The mom was nice too, and she did pet me.
After that we went up a couple of floors to ICU. The usual routine on any floor is that we stop by the nurses station to report in and go from there. But this time we’d just barely gotten to the wing when we saw a couple of computers and a nurse who recognized me immediately! She wanted to take some selfies with me, so of course I posed. Meanwhile, a lot of other staff members stopped by to visit too. I wound up visiting with staff for about 15 minutes before even getting to the nurses station.
The whole day was like that — a little unexpected, a lot of fun, and a lot of smiles.
